Amy Abravanel
president, superscores prep

Amy is a graduate of New York University with a degree in Journalism. She has had a rather eclectic career, marked by some interesting twists and turns. She served as editor-in-chief of several trade publications, until she decided to explore another one of her passions: hospitality. She worked her way up to General Manager of several high-end, high volume New York City restaurants. While serving as GM, Amy made a surprising discovery: as much as she loved the hospitality industry, what she loved most was training the members of her staff. She found she was a natural teacher, and never felt more fulfilled than when she was making a difference to her young employees – not just training them in the finer points of food, wine and service, but also in acting as mentor in many of their lives. At last, she had found her true calling.

For more than 15 years, Amy has been providing private preparation for college entrance exams, helping seniors write their best college essays, and, drawing on her extensive managerial experience, coaching students in interviewing techniques. Amy’s diverse background informs her approach, playing to students’ strengths and individual learning styles. She works with students at every level of learning and prides herself on her success in ensuring that all students – from the most challenged to the most gifted – have all the tools they need to succeed. As a tutor of reading comprehension, grammar, essay writing and vocabulary, Amy has finally come full circle, putting her Journalism degree to very good use.

Also an Executive Functioning Coach, she’s now doing what she loves by helping students discover their best selves. She works with students of all ages, from grade school through college, teaching what they need to stay on track, navigate schedules and deadlines, learn practical study skills, and be successful in all their endeavors. Through regular virtual sessions and “text-ins”, Amy monitors her students’ assignments and exams to be sure they are completing all tasks efficiently and submitting them on time.

When she was a college student, Amy dreamed she would change the world, really make a difference. She is proud to be fulfilling that dream by helping her students fulfill all of theirs.
